Greetings — Welcome

]
The internet is embedded in almost every day of my life. And, like so many others in this world, I am attempting to capitalize on this exciting communication medium to reach people in my community and across the globe. So, whether you came here as a family member, friend, co-worker, or passer-by, I hope you will find your stay enjoyable. Who knows... maybe you will even come back. While you're here, be sure to sign my guestbook! Profile

Curtain of the Domain

]

EricIs.com — There are many meanings to this domain and each has its unique place in my life. First off, I wanted a short name that people could remember. I was tired of explaining the hyphen in eric-swanson.com (I no longer own this domain). So, I went through a list of domains and came up with "EricIs.com". That's the short story. I then purchased IsEric.com to make certain that people could conveniently forget which order to place the two words. It also had the benefit of using sub-domains like "Where.IsEric.com" and "Who.IsEric.com".

The long story of my domain includes deeper aspects... The most obvious conclusion for my more technical audience is that I am a software developer and the logical meaning of the domain is actually "EricIS" or "Eric Information Systems", conveniently also "Eric Internet Software". For the more spiritually gifted, you may find that my domain blasphemously parallels God's old testament name "I Am" 1 2 3 , but I'm not the first. If you prefer philosophizing your spirituality, perhaps the meaning is simply a statement of existence that "Cogito, ergo sum". For Popeye quote lovers, "Oy. I am, what I am. And that's all that I am."

This whole website pretty much reflects something to do with me, so I shouldn't need to bore you with additional, mundane details here. Just always keep in mind that everything you see here is simply an expression of an opinion. There are other expressions of the same opinion I could have chose to use. There are other opinions out there on the same topic from other people. There are people who have the same opinions, slightly different opinions, and completely opposite opinions. A big soup of opinions. So, don't let yours get in the way of having some fun and cause your brain to begin firing negative energy through your body.

*Is that lovely website assistant my wife? Nope. Just a cool graphic I got from TemplateMonster.com.

This Website's Technology

]
This website was built by me using Microsoft's ASP.NET 1.1 technology. As a developer, no simple blog or portal software would do, especially since I learn a great deal from projects like this. I recently migrated the database from SQL Server 2000 to 2005 and hope to re-write the website for .NET 2.0 to take advantage of built-in support for website membership, themes/skins, personalization/customization, etc. sometime this year. I was very happy to have "scraped" all of my posts from my older MSN Spaces blog and import them into this website. Also, I let go of my old domain "eric-swanson.com", because the people at Register.com were being complete idiots and thanked me for my 5 years of business by ignoring my request to move the domain to a new registrar. Bastards. Register.com sucks!

  • My birthday is December 22, 1978
  • I am Caucasian - I am confident and race is not an obstacle
  • I am an ecto-mesomorph (a 135 according to Sheldon's method) - oriented toward both interiority and action
  • In the study of Gynandromorphy (bisexuality), I have a G-index of 3 (out of 7) - meaning that I am masculine with very few feminine body traits (a score of 1 is really rare)
  • My Yin-Yang Qualities are 45% Yin and 55% Yang - So, I am almost equally a White Tiger and Green Dragon
  • My Body Mass Index (BMI) is 23 - Normal, very low risk
  • I feel that I am at an attrative weight, but would enjoy a more muscular foundation with more definition
  • I am influenced by how others perceive me, ranking a 5-4-5 on a scale of 7 in the categories "Physical attrativeness", "Self acceptance and sense of worth", and "Happiness and delight"
  • My body is equally developed and I have no right-left or top-bottom split. I have a slight head-body split, approaching the world through intellect. My front-back split is stronger, indicating tensions in the unconscious elements of myself; storing some attitudes and feelings. Finally, a very mild torso-limbs split, indicating business and little time to contact myself.
  • These splits in my body show that I have a mild Schizoid defensive strategy (holding together against falling apart) and a moderate Rigid Structure (holding back at times with a desire to be in control).
  • Physiognomy is the study of faces. I have an angular and slightly pointed face, showing that I am hard, selfish, rigid, inspired, and sophisticated. The proportions of the 3 regions of my face are 30% forehead, 35% cheek, and 35% jaw, suggesting I have a poor memory, passivity, and dreaming with wisdom, integrity, independence, and strong will.
  • According to the five-fold system of physiognomy, my face represents intelligence, movility, impressionism, versatility, non-perseverence, and intuition.
  • The Chinese art of reading faces, Siang Mien, suggests I have a Jade facial type (diamond shaped). Attributes of this type include elegance, mysticism, sharp, possessive, active, dutiful, caring, and attractive.
  • Using Spier's fourfold typology of the hand, my hand is represented by the element "Water"; describing me as sensitive, psychic, receptive, and reflecting my environment. Additional contrasting attributes are shallow/deep and moving/still.
  • Kasimir's sevenfold classification shows that I have "Square" hands and fingers (logical, very practical, hard-working, elegance and energy and a love for beauty and harmony).
  • The eightfold system of the hand using the planets explains me as friendly, popular, active, sexually attractive, and enjoys beautiful things and the arts. Tends to follow the pleasure and beauty principle.
  • My "Heart Line" says that I am tolerant, practical, sensual, and sympathetic.
  • The "Head Line" says I am cautious, mentally capable, spirited, independent, and influenced by imagination and dreams.
  • My intuition tells me that my "essential element" is "Water" - communicative, passive, calm, flexible, persuasive, restrained, knowledgable, questioning, wise, judgmental, and aspiring.
  • The year of my birth 1978 is associated with "Yang" and the element "Earth". Earth is nearly opposite the element chosen by my intuition and its attributes are very similiar to how I live my life externally (Earth) vs. how I see it internally (Water). This contrast could suggest that I should seek out others with the "Earth" element... my step son is also "Earth", which might explain why we are very similiar, but often have small conflicts.
  • I am on the cusp as a Capricorn
  • I was born under the year of The Horse
  • More to come...

Roles I Play

I am a Husband
I found her and fell so deeply in love, that there was simply nowhere to go in life without her by my side.
I am a Father
When you date a mom, you better be serious about her and begin to accept responsibility as part-time dad (on any level). That's just what I did. From friend to step-father, the transition has been a wonderful learning experience for us both. We continue to learn from one another and attempt to always hold mutual respect for one another. He is a great man already!
I am a Singer
I love singing! I want to sing as a profession, but I would have to be willing to give up 1) time and 2) money. With a family, that's difficult to afford. I would prefer a rhythm & blues band if I had the choice. Eric Clapton, you need a sidekick? I've developed my own version of "Steamroller Blues" and I love to belt it out on the occassional karaoke night. For now, I sing in the community choir ProMusica Arizona.
I am an Actor
I recently discovered my acting skills (or lack thereof) in community theatre and am working hard to develop both my character as well as my acting. I shall remain "undiscovered"... for now.
I am a Software Engineer
If someone in my company needs to automate a task they perform on the computer, or they want to collect or analyze information using the computer, they contact my team. If I'm available and what they need is something we can do, I do it. I gather the requirements, discover a solution, prototype the software, design the solution, build it, and deliver. Our company's work is always related to Sales and Marketing and I work primarily with Microsoft products; Internet software (websites & web services), MS Office VBA tools, command-line utilities, Windows Services, Windows programs, and of course SQL Server databases (ocassionally MS Access and Oracle) to manage the information.
I am an Amateur Guitar Player
After watching the pros play, I would even say VERY amateur guitar player. But, I'm learning and pounding out chords. Working on my barre chords, reading music, quick transitions between chords, etc. Professional singing gig, here I come!!!
