UPDATE: 2006-04-17

If anyone has glanced back at my to-do list for this website and noticed that it hasn't changed... that's because I would like to take advantage of the ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 features as well as integrate my knowledge of Content Management Systems into a newer, better version of my website. I've already made great strides on the architecture, but I do not yet have a release date, so I will just keep blogging until then.

There are always things to do on a website and this is my forever growing list... I'll always be updating this list, so don't look for "Updated" flags on this one...

Layout / Interface

  1. Only show the "Read More" link to a post, if there's more to read...
  2. Dates and Times are stored and displayed in UTC format. Need to convert to display in local time format.
  3. Rework the home page layout
  4. Rework the navigation between topics
  5. More printer-friendly pages w/o the graphic clutter

Website Architecture

  1. Add the ability to pull the content of a single post by using a "code name" — this way all pages on the site could be post-driven.
  2. RSS Feed
  3. Image Gallery
  4. Add topic keyphrase elements
  5. Add sub-domain support for where.iseric.com, who.iseric.com, as well as dynamic post category and keyphrase directories (blog.ericis.com/Architecture), etc.
  6. Add support for Member & Visitor Comments
    • Include administrative review of comments posted and approval
    • Include basic formatting syntax for comments, including bold, italic, underline, color, links, etc. Strip out all other content formatting and markup.
    • Automatic bad word detection
  7. Add a Link Directory
  8. Make certain website is compatible with new Internet Explorer 7.0 features
  9. Plan for future move to ASP.NET 2.0
    • Theming / Skinning
    • Personalization
    • WebParts

Content is King

  1. Add "About Me" page
  2. Add "Privacy Policy"
  3. Add "Terms of Use"
  4. Add "Legal"
  5. Add some posts
  6. Add "Search" support – start with Web search and then add-in post search, etc.

Database To-Dos

  1. Add a unique post code
  2. Add image gallery (private, public, and a gallery for use in posts)
  3. Modify User table to support avatars
  4. Add a Link Directory
  5. Plan for move to MS SQL Server 2005
    • Migrate all encrypted information to use built-in database column encryption
